Gladys Yacely Aponte, M.S.Ed., is a dual language bilingual teacher in New York City. She received a master's in Special Education and Dual Language Bilingual Education from Bank Street College, and a BA in Elementary Education and English Language Arts from Hunter College.
Gladys emphasizes the importance of centering young students' voices and being transparent about curricula and topics traditionally left out of the classroom, such as linguistics. Etymation portrays her passion for cultivating linguistic confidence and metalinguistic awareness in youth beyond her own classroom.
Gladys is also an adjunct instructor at Bank Street College, where she teaches courses in linguistics, foundations of bilingual education, and language acquisition. She facilitates professional development workshops in NYC schools, and serves as an Ambassador for CUNY-New York State Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals (NYSIEB).
